Beneficial Bug! Why the name 'Praying Mantis (Praying Mantid)'?
Check out the large front legs. They bend and are held in a position somewhat like a position of prayer.
Swiveling their triangular head 180 degrees, two large compound eyes and three smaller simple eyes between.
Going to have to look closer the next time I get this visitor!
Camouflage color allows Marty the Mantis to just wait, strike with front legs and pin the prey! Moths, crickets, grasshoppers, flies, and generally all smaller insects......BEWARE. For that reason, gardeners, they are your friends. Let them be!
